Major shake-up at Apple results in exit of Forstall, Browett

30/10/2012 16:55

Scott Forstall, head of Apple's operating system, will leave the coming come 2013, while John Browett, Apple's retail head leaves immediately, according to a release sent out by the company.

The exit of Forstall comes after what has been described as "lukewarm" reactions to Siri and Apple Maps, both of which were projects of Forstall. The Apple Maps program had cause popular uproar. Tim Cook, chief executive of Apple had to make a public apology over the poor quality of the application.

The change is no doubt the most significant staffing change under the leadership of Cook, since he took over in August 2011.

For Browett, it is believed that his exit, which is coming less than a year after he joined the company, is not unconnected to his cutting of staff at the company's stores. Apple had to issue a statement that the decision was "a mistake", while reversing the action.
