Thomson Reuters Foundation Launches Parliamentary Reporting Journalism Competition
The first Parliamentary Reporting Journalism Competition of the Thomson Reuters Foundation has been launched. The Competition, which is part of The Westminster Consortium programme would give journalists the chance to win $US800 and a trip to the launch of the Parliamentary Reporting Handbook.
Opened to any participant who took part in a Westminster Consortium course run by Thomson Reuters Foundation in 2010, it is geared towards getting the best articles written on the subject of Parliament, and aimed at motivating and encouraging journalists who trained on the programme to continue excelling in their profession and to ensure that they receive recognition for stories published relating to parliament and elections, traditionally difficult subjects to cover objectivity and independently.
The winning entries will be published on the local Westminster Consortium website as well as being translated and published on Thomson Reuters Foundation’s website www.reuterslink.org, while One winner for each country (Georgia,Lebanon, Mozambique, Uganda and Ukraine) will be announced on the 31 March 2011 and each winner will receive $US800. The overall winner of the competition will be invited to attend the launch of the Parliamentary Reporting Handbook in 2011, the location of which would be revealed soon.
Interested applicants should submit five stories along with their application to: foundation@thomsonreuters.com
For TV and Radio journalists stories or scripts must be up to 1,000 words in length, must have been produced post-course attendance and must have been published in 2010 (please include details of where and when they were published).
The word "Parliament Reporting Competition" should be included in the subject line of the email.
Entrants should list in body of mail, name, country and the name and date of the course attended, and up to 250 words on what impact the course has had on their reporting.
Deadline: March 7, 2011.
