NLC urges Oyo to release salaries of verified workers

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, on March 23, 2017 called on the state government to release the salaries of public and civil servants who had submitted their certificates for re-verification and had been cleared.

The state government, in its verification and re-verification exercises, had expunged from its payroll the names of some staff found to have fake school leaving certificates.

Chairman, Oyo NLC, Waheed Olojede, alleged that the consultant verifying certificates had been treating applications of concerned staff for reabsorption into the payroll at snail speed.

Making a case for the workers, Olojede said that many who had been cleared of irregularities in their bank verification number and possession of forged certificates had not received their salaries/entitlements since March 2016.

While noting that the NLC was not party to certificate forgery, Olojede urged the state government to retreat on "incessant" screening exercises.

He also expressed the union's displeasure at "epileptic" payment of local government staff adding that civil servants in the mainstream of the public sector last received their salary in October 2016.

Reacting, Oyo Head of Service, Soji Eniade assured that all civil servants cleared and verified by the consultant will be reabsorbed into government's payroll.

Noting that majority of those cleared had been reinstated into the payroll, he said the state government abided by moderated processes of forwarding verified names back to the Ministry of Finance, place of work among other relevant quarters.

He noted that the process was step by step but pointed out that it was only those with fake certificates that would not be reinstated on the payroll.
