17/03/2014 16:06
The Katsina State Primary Healthcare Development Agency on Monday said it had recorded 92 per cent coverage in polio routine immunisation in the state.

Malam Sahabi Ibrahim, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a press statement.

The statement said the government spends N3.4million on the exercise monthly.

It stated that the Agency would collect samples from sewage across the state for laboratory test to ascertain if polio had been completely eradicated from the state.

The statement further said that the testing would be conducted in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, WHO and UNICEF.

It added that sample tests carried out on children’s stool showed that the virus was no longer active in the state.

The state had not recorded a single case of poliomyelitis in any of its 34 local government council areas since October, 2012.
