No fewer than 41,379 children have been immunised against polio virus in Birniwa local government area of Jigawa in the last round of immunisation.

Malam Daudu Sulaiman, the Information Officer for the council, said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Dutse.
Daudu said the council targeted 36,820 children for the exercise, but was able to immunise 41,379.

He also disclosed that 13 non-compliance cases were recorded during the exercise, resulting in the non-immunisation of 15 children in the council.

Daudu, however, said all the non-compliance cases were later resolved with the intervention of traditional rulers and religious leaders in the area.

According to him, the local government council employed some tactics that enabled it achieve its aim.

He explained that the council provided cartons of sweets and other incentives to entice children that were immunised in the exercise and also provided allowance for the members of the task force committee who supervised the exercise.
