Doctor dies of Ebola in Nigeria's oil city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State

A doctor has died of the Ebola virus disease in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

 

Dr. Iyke Enemoah, who secretly treated an ECOWAS diplomat who had contact with late Patrick Sawyer, the first case of the disease in Nigeria, died on August 22.

 

Prof Chukwu Onyebuchi, minister of health while confirming the death, said, results only recently confirmed that he died of the Ebola virus.

 

He said, "70 people are under surveillance in the city, while his wife has been put under quarantine."
 

Dr. Samson Parker, Rivers State Commissioner of Health, who also confirmed the Ebola case in Port Harcourt in a press conference indicated that the doctor died in a hotel. Name of hotel however remains secret.

 

He said, "100 contact persons are under surveillance and a 24-hour surveillance has been declared on all contacts, including patients of the late Dr Iyke Enemoah."
