President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday night called President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire to congratulate him on his election victory.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

Buhari, according to Shehu, in a telephone conversation with Ouattara, described the election as a “major victory for democracy.”

The President was also said to have praised Ivorians for the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that it was a clear indication that the people of the West African country are prepared to live with one another in peace and harmony.

Buhari was also qouted to have told Ouattara that his re-election for a second five-year term was an opportunity to continue leading Cote d’Ivoire along the path to greatness, in peace and tranquility.

He wished him a successful second term in office.
