Air traffic controllers shelve planned strike
The Nigeria Air Traffic Controllers’ Association has shelved its planned strike which was scheduled to begin on Monday.
National Secretary of the association, Mr Banji Olawode, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
He said that the strike was suspended following an agreement the association reached with the management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency on the welfare of its members.
The association had on Friday announced its decision to begin an indefinite strike on Monday over alleged insensitivity by NAMA to its members’ welfare.
He said that the agreement was reached in the early hours on Monday.
Olawode said that the meeting which began on Sunday lasted till the early hours of Monday.
“An agreement has been reached and signed by the two parties after hours of deliberations.
“Therefore, the planned industrial action has been suspended,” the secretary said.
He told NAN that the association had, in recent times, been agitating for a better welfare package for its members as well as recruitment of more technical manpower.
