10/04/2014 16:51
A press statement from the African Union Commission (AUC) has indicated that the AU and Rwanda are set to jointly commemorate the 20th year of the Rwandan genocide.
The event is scheduled to hold at the AU Nelson Mandela Hall on Friday, April 11. It has as its theme: "Remember, Unite, and Renew".
It will be marked by the relay of a "flame of remembrance" among youths from the five regions of the African continent.
It stated that the flame symbolises memory, hope and resolve to prevent genocide on the continent.
The genocide had resulted in the mass slaughter of Tutsis and moderate Hutus in Rwanda by members of the Hutu majority, which started on April 7 to July 15, 1994.
