235 lunatics evacuated from 14 local government areas in Kano

The Kano State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency has reportedly evacuated about 235 lunatics from the streets in 14 local government areas.
Ali Bashir, executive secretary of the agency, said 49 of them were females, while the 186 were males.
Bashir said the exercise was necessary in order to ensure that lunatics were not allowed to roam the streets.
He said that the state government had approved N7 million for the agency to enable it remove the lunatics.
Bashir explained that the money approved was being used to feed and provide healthcare services to the affected lunatics, adding that they were currently being accommodated in 13 rehabilitation centres across the state.
He, however, said that the non-indigenes among them would be repatriated to their respective states of origin.
"We have so far identified five of them who are from Cameroun, Chad and Niger Republic.
"They will soon be handed over to officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service for onward transfer to their countries.
"All those who cannot speak or express themselves will be accommodated and taken care of here," Bashir said.
