2011 Korea-United States Journalist Exchange Programme Launched

12/02/2011 07:59

Print, broadcast and online journalists with at least five years experience from Korea and the United States, can now apply for the "2011 Korea-United States Journalists Exchange" programme. The Exchange programmes seeks to bridge the gaps in understanding between Korea and the United Sates, especially the issue of threats and alliances on the Korean Peninsula.

It would provide a platform for participants to meet with government officials, community and business leaders, educators and students, local journalists and others to gain insights on the many diverse issues and perspectives among Americans and Koreans that shape the relationship between the two countries.

A study tour for Korean journalists to Washington, DC; Chicago, Illinois and Houston, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii, and a study tour for their American counterparts to Seoul, Pusan, Kwangju and Kunsan in South Korea; Honolulu, Hawaii, would be a highpoint of the Exchange programme activities.

After their study tours, the U.S. and Korean journalists will meet for a three-day dialogue at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii to discuss the relationship between their countries and how media coverage of U.S.-Korea issues can be enhanced.

Sponsored by the East-West Center and the Korea Press Foundation, and supported by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation, the Exchange programme, holds May 14 through to May 29, 2011.
