Lagos House of Assembly summons commissioner of transport over boat mishaps

The Lagos State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Kayode Opeifa, over boat accidents in Majidun and Mile 2 areas of the state.
Yinka Marinho, the General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority and the Association of Ferry Operators was also summoned by the House.
They are to appear before the House on April 14.
Sanai Agunbiade, a member of the House, moved the motion under matters of urgent public importance at plenary.
His colleague, Gbolahan Yishawu (APC-Eti-Osa II) attributed the boat mishaps to non-enforcement of the laws that guided road and water transportation in the state.
He therefore called on the House to treat the issue as a matter of urgency.
Eight people died, while 12 others were rescued by local divers after a wooden boat capsized at the Majidun River in Ikorodu on April 2, weeks afterwhich yet anothe accident occurred at Mile 2.
